Huts
How do children build huts? I see them build and try them out with their bodies.
They look for suitable materials to fit their ideas. Or maybe the plan of
the space is formed in the same time as the material are found. Children build
a new universe populated by different figures, persons och roles who act in
different layers in time.It is difficult to watch someone playing. If you
dont participate, you disturb. The play do not want to be observed.
As a grown up I remember my play as a child. But when you are grown up you
see it with the mind and consiousness of the adult . The play are filtered
through a lot of experiences. The children senses and mind is impossible to
reconstruct. When I find a hut outdoors somewhere is it like traces with consists
of more or less building materials. Quite often you find things that has had
importance in the play, beutiful twines, a bottle, a box, a fireplace, a bench
some flowers or big sticks, something chosen, something special.
Huts are occasional and often fragile. They do not care about security, strength
and lasting aspects .They are build from found materials that you can see
a possible use for. The material that are around, your focus of attention
and he esthetical preferences decide the form and function of the hut. 17
