stage for kids /
squirrel dance
commissioned by the national federation of people’s parks and community
centres. In Nässjö, Skinnskatteberg and Falun. Materials are stone,
plastic, stainless steel 2007
There is room for one or two kids on each stage. Inside the rooms there is
a funnel through which they can shout to the other stage. Between the spaces
are stones like a paved path. Under each structure, in front of the opening,
is a stone to tread on to enter the stage. You can hide behind the wall and
peek through the holes. Squirrels chase one another, as in a ring-game, around
midsummer. Lights are mounted inside the sculpture and when it is dark the
holes shine like the eyes of some strange creature. Sitting in there when
it is dark outside is like being inside a lamp. The people’s parks require
a great deal of voluntary work as it is. Therefore, I chose maintenance-free
materials.
